District 55/Division H
Toastmasters Leadership Institute (TLI)
San Antonio, TX – 9 January 2010
Featuring Jim Key, DTM – 2003 World Champion of Public Speaking

Jim Key, DTM
On 9 January 2010, Division H hosted a TLI at the Valero Campus to train the incoming Officers within the Division. It featured a one hour presentation by Jim Key – The 2003 World Champion of Public Speaking and was attended by over 85 Officers and members, including almost half of our Club 9434 membership. It was a great opportunity to learn and grow and meet a World Champion of Public Speaking.
The event was organized by our own VP of Public Relations, Bill Greenham, who opened the proceedings in his own unique style while the "Men at Work" music played in the background. Despite the Chilly conditions San Antonio was experiencing outside, Bill was dressed in Khaki shirt and shorts as he entertained us with his own version of the “Croc Hunter”.
This was followed by a few introductory remarks by our Division Governor, Humberto Vela and then it was time for our own resident DTM, Jack Hathaway to introduce Jim Key to the resounding applause of the assembled members.
Jim’s Topic was “The Keys to Contest (and Non Contest) Speaking Success”.
We were all treated to an exceptionally informative and entertaining presentation and we all thank Jim wholeheartedly for taking the time out of his busy schedule to support our event. He provided us all with great advice and insights based on his experiences. At the conclusion of the presentation, Bill presented Jim with a framed Certificate of Appreciation on behalf of the Division.

Following Jim’s presentation, Jack got to spend some quality one on one time with Jim, who he has known for some time.

For the remainder of the attendees, individual Officer Training sessions were then conducted for all Club Officer Roles. One of these sessions was conducted by our own Club President, John Kacher , who moderated a panel discussion during the “Presidents” training which included Humberto Vela, Scott Avery and Jack Hathaway providing insight into the role of Club President.

Over 80 individuals were trained for Officer positions and another 50 attended general education sessions!!!! A great achievement!!!!
Of Course, the TLI couldn't be successful without support from the members of the District.
Thanks to the Valero Toastmasters Club for the use of their facilities and their assistance with the Organization and Conduct of the event. The facilities are World Class and we are very fortunate to be able to utilize them.
